Crystal glazes
Tradition and renewal

2 April – 30 October 2011
The use of crystal glazes is a technique that requires a lot of craftmanship. The glaze can only be used on porcelain and is limited to specific classic forms. In the beginning of the 20th century ceramists in Delft experimented with this glaze, but only apllied it on building ceramics (tiles).

The exhibition in Tetar is a part of ‘Brandpunt Terra’, a ceramic festival organised by Galery Terra on ooccasion of their 25th anniversary. The theme ‘Tradition and Renewal’ is expressed by linking modern ceramists and the collection of Paul Tetar van Elven.

The Dutch ceramist Hein Severijns specializes in the use of crystal glazes on handmade porcelain pots, vases and bottles. Together with Galery Terra he made a selection of his work and that of 4 collegues, who employ the same technique: the Frenchmen Yves Lambeau and Denis Caraty, Edmund Deinböck from Switzerland and the Austrian Peter Fröhlich. They all made one special object for which a museumpiece formed the inspiration.
