Exhibitions
Apart from the permanent collection in the rooms, an annual exhibition is organised. During 2010 this exhibition comprises the work of
Kees Mension
This painter was born in 1882 in Delft and was educated as an art teacher at The Hague Academy. He was reknowmed for his life-like drawings and paintings of animals. His fine colors and accurate lines made a strong impression. He made his animal studies in the Zoo of Rotterdam and later on in Munich, Hamburg and Neurenberg. The animals in those cities lived in a natural setting instead of being locked up in cages. In the early part of the 20th century these zoos were laid in collaboration of painters as gardens which looked like the natural environment of the animals.
The painter died in Delft in 1950.
