History of the house
Koornmarkt 67 is a stately canal-house which was built after the extensive town fire, that raged through Delft in 1536. In the course of the centuries the house has undergone several, sometimes extensive, alterations. Paul Tetar van Elven gave the building a special and personal touch. In honour of the old masters he commissioned Abraham Gips, his successor at the Polytechnical School, in 1886 to paint the ceiling in the drawing-room with their names. In the 1970's an 18th century chamber and some other parts from a different Delft building was installed in the museum.
