VOS 7 HAANEN - Artistic sisterhood from Oosterbeek

From March 10th to August 30th 2026

In the dining room at the museum there is asmall painting just to the left of the chimney. It has been in the museum for many decades, and it was painted by Adriana Haanen (1814-1895). Haanen and her colleague Maria Vos (1824-1906) were contemporaries of Paul Tétar van Elven. They lived and worked together for many years in Oosterbeek and they both achieved recognition, mainly with still lifes.

Not only did they enjoy artistic success, but they were both astute businesswomen, much like their almost contemporary Thérèse Schwartze (1851 -1918). (Museum Tetar van Elven devoted an exhibitionto Schwartze in 2022.) Vos and Haanen’s work has long been out of the public eye and this exhibition aims to change that. Pieter van der Kuil, a resident of Oosterbeek, has been fascinated by Vos and Haanen for many years. Thanks to his research it isnow possible to put together an exhibition with work from private and museum collections.
